James Marshall, aka Dalek, is an American painter known for his Space Monkey character. After art school in the 1990s, he began exhibiting and promoting his work through stickers and prints. In 2001, he moved to Brooklyn and attended a Takashi Murakami exhibition, which inspired him to seek mentorship with the Japanese artist. This apprenticeship helped shape his studio practice, particularly his color mixing techniques. Dalek has exhibited internationally, created large murals, and worked with companies like Nike, Hurley, American Express, Microsoft, and Instagram. His work has been featured in major publications like The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Juxtapoz.
